VICE Chancellor of University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) Prof. Olusola Oyewole yesterday said “internal politics” and associated intrigues were responsible for the crisis in the institution.

Oyewole, who spoke with reporters in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, was confident he would be vindicated at the end.

He appealed to the agitating workers, under the aegis of Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and students to give peace a chance.

The  management has set up a committee to look into  the protest by students, where five persons, including three police officers, were injured, and property destroyed.

The school authorities, which postponed the resumption of students indefinitely, said the decision was aimed at preventing a recurrence.

On Wednesday, aggrieved members of SSANU shut the lodge of the vice chancellor and the Senate Building in protest against Oyewole.

SSANU claimed it has suspended Prof. Oyewole; Pro-Chancellor, Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe and members of FUNAAB’s Governing Council.

SSANU faulted suspension of three of its members by the VC, in connection with a petition to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), detailing allegations of fund mismanagement in the university.
