A woman was rushed to the hospital in critical condition after setting herself on fire in a congressman’s office, according to police in Illinois.

Chicago police said that the incident unfolded on Tuesday around 3:00 p.m., in the office of U.S. Rep. Danny K. Davis, a democrat.

The 43-year-old woman, who was not identified, came into the office located at 2746 W. Madison Street.

Davis was not in the office at the time, but was on his way back from a meeting and arrived after the woman was taken to the hospital.

According to the police investigation, the woman touched various items around the room. Eventually, the woman was told to stop touching things, and was told that the police would be called if she did not listen.

That is when the woman grabbed a bottle of hand sanitizer and began to drink from it. She then poured liquid on herself and pulled out a cigarette lighter.

The woman then set herself on fire in an attempt to kill herself.

A staff member grabbed a fire extinguisher and put out the flames. She suffered burns and was taken to the Stroger Hospital in critical condition.
