Police in New York, are looking for a man, who set a woman on fire while she was shopping.
Detectives are still trying to determine whether the incident was a hate crime motivated by the womanโs religion.
35-year-old Nemariq Alhinai of Scotland, told police that she was walking in front of the Valentino department store on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, when she was attacked.
The incident took place at 9:00 p.m. on Saturday. Alhinai said that she felt warm on her left arm, and when she looked down, she realized that her shirt was on fire.
The woman also said that she saw a man standing beside her with a lighter in his hand. She put out the flames, but the attacker managed to get away.
The New York Police Departmentโs (NYPD) Hate Crimes Task Force have launched an investigation, but so far, no arrests have been made.
This attack comes just one week after Emirjeta Xhelili, 32, attacked two Muslim women in Brooklyn.
Xhelili assaulted two women who were wearing hijabs by hitting them in the face and body. She repeatedly shouted: โThis is the United States of America, you’re not supposed to be different from us,โ according to a criminal complaint filed by the Brooklyn District Attorney.
