Taylor Swift donates $50,000 to Louisiana public school system for flood relief

Taylor Swift is signing the blank space on a check yet again, this time for a school system in flood-ravaged Louisiana.

The singer donated $50,000 to Ascension Public Schools whose students and faculty had recently lip-synced her hit “Shake It Off” in a back-to-school video to aid in recovery after last month’s deadly deluge.

The hefty sum is likely part of the $1 million Swift pledged to the Bayou State’s flood victims in August, school public information officer Jackie Tisdell told the Daily News in an email Saturday

“We will use it to replace classroom items lost in the flood like laptops for students,” Tisdell said. “All of our 5th-12th graders have a personal computing device they can take home. Many of those were lost in the flood.”

School superintendent David Alexander said in a statement the schools were “overwhelmed by the generosity of those wanting to help our students.”

The Grammy winner announced Aug. 16 she would donate $1 million for flood relief in Louisiana, one of the first stops on her “1989 World Tour.”

“The fact that so many people in Louisiana have been forced out of their own homes this week is heartbreaking,” she said in a statement at the time. “I encourage those who can to help out and send your love and prayers their way during this devastating time.”

Swift’s goodwill résumé has lately also included Facetiming with a terminally ill fan and donating $5,000 to the family of a fan who died in a car accident.
