A former pastor was ordered to buy a man two packs of beer as compensation for raping his young daughter.
However, he was subsequently arrested after the public in Mexico, put pressure on prosecutors to charge him for raping the girl.
Human rights activists have also reacted with anger because the former pastor was allowed to walk free after being accused of sexually abusing the 8-year old girl.
The family went to the municipal government in Santiago Quetzalapa, about 450 kilometers south-east of Mexico City, to file a complaint over the action of the 55-year-old suspect.
Instead of putting him in jail, officials ordered the former pastor to buy the father two packs of beer.
However, the father of the victim was angry with the punishment and he publicized the story.
After the story went viral, it caused widespread outrage in the state. The Oaxaca state attorney generalโs office said that police have since arrested the former pastor on charges of aggravated rape.
