IGP meets stakeholders, talks about intelligence gathering

Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, on Tuesday met with stakeholders and stressed on intelligence gathering to address security challenges.

Disclosing the news in a statement, the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumujiwa Adejobi, said the meeting at the Force Headquarters in Abuja came as President Muhammadu Buhari vowed to leave the country with deepening democracy and credible elections. The process is according to the commitment. He said the IGP has โ€œconducted tactical meetings and meetings with various stakeholders to develop robust standard operating procedures and strategic communication action plans for a smooth electoral process in the coming yearโ€.

โ€œIn furtherance of the IGPโ€™s critical plans in actualizing free, fair, and credible elections in Nigeria, a strategic meeting with all heads of operations of national security agencies in the country, was held at the instance of the IGP, on Tuesday 13th December 2022, at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, to further deepen inter-agency collaborative initiatives towards guaranteeing secure electioneering processes for the 2023 General Elections,โ€ the statement read.

โ€œAt the meeting, the IGP emphasized the need to enhance actionable intelligence gathering and sharing, coordinated operations, and adequate deployment of personnel and resources by all relevant security agencies and stakeholders in the election process.โ€

Meanwhile, the IGP is calling on the Nigeria Police to develop and implement a productive strategic communication action plan that will leverage the operational drivers the police have built to ensure free, fair and credible elections in 2023.

He made the call at the 2022 Police Public Relations Officers Meeting in Ibadan, Oyo State. Through the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), DIG Johnson Babatunde Kokumo, the police boss asked the PPRO to demonstrate its skills in strategic communication to stem electoral clashes and violence across the country as a panacea to Nigeria’s security challenges.

The theme of the PPROs conference is โ€œStrengthening Strategic Communication for Police Reform, Security and Integrity in the 2023 Electionsโ€ and the inaugural session will hold at the Kakanfo Inn, Ibadan on Monday, December 12, 2022 and run through to the 15th. , 2022 Closed on Thursday, when there is a gala evening at the same location.
