Harmancฤฑ: ” They say, ‘The order has come, we will implement it’. It’s a pity”
Nicosia Turkish Municipality (LTB) President Mehmet Harmancฤฑ participated in the action held by the unions organized in the municipalities in front of the Assembly, and criticized what was done in order to demand that the (Special) Law on the Unification of Municipalities be drawn up to the committee and rearranged.
Harmancฤฑ pointed out that the citizens who have the right to speak on the draft law were ignored and said, โWas there any meeting? Have the opinions of the people in the municipalities to be merged been taken? Were the words of elected mayors and city council members taken into account? No. Has the words of the citizens living in this region been listened to? No. The order came, they say, we will implement it. It’s a pity,” he said.
Stating that the laws tried to be passed in this way have changed the future and that no one knows what the future will be. Harmancฤฑ said, โThe future of the employees and people should not be that simple or that cheap. This shouldn’t be the way people use democracy. This country doesn’t deserve that much. We will fight until the end,” he said.
Stating that everyone knows that there is a need for reform, but the problem is how the reform should be. Harmancฤฑ likened the current effort to “trying to grow roses in a garden created by combining pomegranate and lettuce gardens with different soil types”.

My staff and municipal vehicles, which were transported for the protest in front of the Parliament in Nicosia in the morning, were detained by the police.
