Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has expressed deep sorrow over the recent wave of violent attacks in Kebbi and Zamfara States, describing them as devastating and unacceptable.
Obi, who issued his statement from Monaco, lamented the attack on Maga Comprehensive Girls’ Secondary School in Kebbi State, where several female students were abducted and a staff member killed. He also condemned a separate incident in Zamfara State, where bandits reportedly killed three people and abducted about 64 others in Fegin Baza village, Tsafe Local Government Area.
“My heart is heavy as I receive the heartbreaking news from Kebbi and Zamfara. Entire communities are living in fear; schools—safe havens for learning—are now vulnerable targets. Families are being torn apart, and innocent lives are being destroyed. This is not the Nigeria we should accept,” Obi said.
He extended condolences to the governments and people of both states, as well as to the parents and families of the abducted girls and other victims. Obi stressed that the tragedies highlight the urgent need for stronger security measures across the country.
“At this difficult time, we must strengthen our resolve to secure every part of our nation. I call on the government at all levels to urgently intensify security efforts, overhaul our security architecture, ensure the safe rescue of the abducted girls, and prevent further attacks on our schools and communities. Our children must never be left at the mercy of terrorists,” he added.
