The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken sweeping disciplinary action at its 2025 National Convention in Ibadan, expelling several prominent figures including FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, Senior Advocate of Nigeria Kamaldeen Ajibade, former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, and Hon. Austin Nwachukwu.
The decision, ratified by an overwhelming majority of delegates, was announced as part of the party’s effort to restore unity, discipline, and focus ahead of the 2027 general elections. Party leaders described the move as a landmark step toward eradicating internal divisions and curbing anti-party activities that have hindered the PDP’s progress in recent years.
Officials at the convention emphasized that the expulsions were necessary to reinforce the party’s commitment to loyalty and collective responsibility. They noted that repeated acts of indiscipline and disregard for party directives had undermined cohesion, making decisive action unavoidable.
The convention, which continues in Ibadan, has been framed as a turning point for the PDP as it seeks to reposition itself as a credible alternative in Nigeria’s political landscape.
