Congressman Riley M. Moore on Wednesday held talks with a high-level Nigerian government delegation led by National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.
The meeting, which took place during the delegation’s visit to Washington, focused on the persecution of Christians in Nigeria, the threat posed by terrorist groups, and opportunities for deeper U.S.–Nigeria cooperation to curb violence.
Nigerian officials outlined the country’s ongoing challenges in counterterrorism, security assistance, and the protection of vulnerable communities. They also raised concerns about persistent violence across several regions.
Congressman Moore reaffirmed America’s readiness to work with Nigeria, stressing that the United States would not tolerate continued religious persecution. He referenced President Trump’s position on the issue, noting that Washington remains committed to ensuring accountability and tangible progress.
In a statement following the meeting, Moore said: “I had a frank, honest, and productive discussion with senior members of the Nigerian government regarding the horrific violence and persecution Christians face and the ongoing threat terrorism poses across Nigeria. I made it crystal clear that the United States must see tangible steps to ensure that Christians are not subject to violence, persecution, displacement, and death simply for believing in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”
He added that the U.S. stands ready to cooperate with Nigeria in combating Boko Haram, ISWAP, and Fulani militants, particularly in the Northeast and Middle Belt regions. Moore urged Nigerian authorities to seize the opportunity to strengthen ties with Washington, emphasizing that both President Trump and Congress are united in their resolve to end religious violence and dismantle terrorist networks.
