Atiku Abubakar Condemns Killing of Brig. Gen. Musa Uba, Faults Government’s Handling of Security

Brigadier General Uwa Uba

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expressed shock and sadness over the killing of Brigadier General Musa Uba and several troops by terrorists, describing the incident as a failure of political leadership and a sign of Nigeria’s worsening insecurity.

In a statement, Atiku criticized the military hierarchy for failing to provide clarity on how the attack occurred, noting that initial official denials only deepened public confusion. He said the tragedy underscores the government’s inability to prioritize its constitutional duty of protecting citizens.

“This is unequivocally a failure of political leadership as the President seems more interested in decimating the opposition than fulfilling his crucial role as Commander-in-Chief,” Atiku declared.

He warned that the death of Gen. Uba and his men represents “one death too many” and signals a dangerous resurgence of terrorist activity that Nigeria cannot afford.

Atiku urged citizens and military leaders to remain resilient, while calling on President Bola Tinubu to take responsibility for the nation’s security.

“The security of the lives of our people is your primary responsibility. You must live up to it or be humble enough to admit incompetence and either ask for help or resign,” he said.

Outlining what he would do if in office, Atiku stated that he would order the military to occupy Borno State or any other state under siege until armed groups are cleared out. He emphasized the need to protect the men and women of the armed forces who risk their lives daily for the country.

Atiku extended condolences to the Nigerian Armed Forces, the family of Gen. Uba, and all Nigerians affected by the tragedy.
