Former Anambra State governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has encouraged Nigeria’s Super Eagles to remain resilient and focused despite their recent defeat that ended the nation’s hopes of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
In a statement released on Monday, Obi acknowledged the disappointment felt by the players and millions of Nigerians following the loss. He praised the team’s dedication, sacrifice, and commitment, noting that wearing the green and white jersey represents carrying “the heartbeat of the whole nation.”
Obi urged the players not to allow the setback to break their spirit, stressing that great teams are defined by how they respond to adversity. He called for regrouping and rebuilding with greater discipline, focus, and preparedness, expressing confidence that the Super Eagles can rise stronger.
“Do not let today overshadow the greatness of tomorrow. The Eagle never bows its head, it lifts its wings,” Obi said.
He concluded by reaffirming his belief in the team’s potential, stating that Nigeria stands firmly behind them. “Keep your heads high and stay committed. Nigeria believes in you, and together, we will soar again,” he added.
