Former presidential candidate and Labour Party leader Peter Obi has paid tribute to Somtochukwu Maduagwu, a young journalist with Arise News whose life was tragically cut short during a robbery in Abuja. Obi attended her burial Mass and interment in Agulu, Anambra State, shortly after returning from official engagements in the United Kingdom.

In a heartfelt statement, Obi described Maduagwu as a “shining example of youthful resourcefulness and dedication,” lamenting the loss of a promising talent to the country’s ongoing security challenges. “Her passion for truth and commitment to her work reflected the immense possibilities that abound when our young people are given the right environment to thrive,” he said.

Obi emphasized that the death of Maduagwu was not only a personal tragedy for her family and colleagues but also a national loss, highlighting the broader implications of insecurity on Nigeria’s future.
