The Senate has stated that it has not yet received the certified true copy (CTC) of the Federal High Court judgment that nullified the six-month suspension of Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. Justice Binta Nyako of the Abuja court had ruled on Friday that the suspension was excessive and ordered the Senate to reinstate the lawmaker.

Senate spokesman Yemi Adaramodu, in a statement on Sunday, confirmed that while the upper legislative chamber acknowledges the court’s decision, it has not been formally served with the judgment details. “Since no party to the case has been officially served the enrolled order of the judgment, none can enforce any perceived order or relief,” he said.

Adaramodu explained that the Senate’s legal team, present during the proceedings, noted that the full judgment was not read in open court. As a result, the Senate has formally requested the CTC to review the ruling and determine its next steps. “Pending receipt and examination of the CTC, and acting on the advice of counsel, the Senate shall refrain from taking any steps that may prejudice its legal position,” he added.

The Senate assured the public of its commitment to the rule of law, stating that it would act in line with the Nigerian Constitution once the court’s pronouncements are fully clarified. “We urge the public to remain patient and assured of the Senate’s fidelity to due process,” Adaramodu said.

The case stems from Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension in June 2025, which the court has now overturned. The Senate’s cautious response indicates a wait-and-see approach until the formal documentation is received and scrutinized.
