The Nigerian Army (NA) has confirmed the detention of Corporal Amina Maidoki, a female soldier, following accusations of theft and other misconduct.
In a statement issued by Lt-Col Appolonia Anele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, the NA stated that Maidoki is under investigation for “alleged actions contrary to the Nigerian Army’s core values, including theft.”
The Army emphasized that its disciplinary processes strictly adhere to the Armed Forces Act (Cap A20 LFN 2004), internal regulations, and military ethics. “Her temporary detention follows established legal procedures applicable to all service personnel,” the statement read.
“Disciplinary actions in the Nigerian Army are not arbitrary but follow due process, ensuring procedural fairness for all accused personnel,” it added.
The NA assured that Maidoki’s legal and human rights are being upheld during the investigation and that she continues to receive proper welfare in line with military standards.
The Army also dismissed claims of unlawful detention or denial of legal representation, describing such allegations as “false and misleading.” It urged the public to disregard these claims and avoid speculation, promising updates when appropriate.
While acknowledging concerns from Maidoki’s family, the NA stated that it remains open to lawful communication, provided such engagements comply with ongoing investigative protocols.
“The Nigerian Army respects the rights of all accused personnel, regardless of their identity. However, no individual is above military law, and misconduct allegations must be thoroughly investigated to uphold the NA’s integrity and operational effectiveness,” the statement concluded.
