Bauchi Faces More Disruptions as Flood Cuts Off Highway

Flooding has severely impacted the Azare-Ja’amare road along the Kano-Maiduguri Highway in Bauchi State, cutting off a major transportation route.

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, inspected the affected area and confirmed that he has alerted the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, who had already visited the site last week when the road was first threatened by flooding.

Governor Mohammed also cautioned that nearby communities could be at risk of submersion if the water flow is not properly controlled. The road damage is part of a broader flooding crisis affecting the region.

The incident occurred just two weeks after heavy rains caused severe damage to the federal highway linking Kano and Maiduguri, particularly between the Malori and Guskuri villages in Bauchi’s Katagum Local Government Area. The flood created a large crater in the road, forcing motorists to take alternative routes.

Bauchi State, located in Nigeria’s North-East geopolitical zone, has experienced significant flooding over the past few weeks. The floods have claimed lives, destroyed thousands of houses, and disrupted critical infrastructure, further complicating efforts to manage the situation.
