Governors from all 36 states of Nigeria are currently gathering in Abuja for a meeting hosted by the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) at their secretariat in the Federal Capital Territory.

Several governors have already arrived at the venue, including Lawal Dauda of Zamfara, Bala Mohammed of Bauchi, Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau, Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta, and Alex Otti of Abia. Governors Peter Mbah of Enugu and Babagana Zulum of Borno have sent their deputies to represent them.

The agenda for this meeting has not been publicly disclosed. However, it is noteworthy that this is the first public meeting of the NGF since President Bola Tinubu approved a new minimum wage of N70,000. During their last session, the governors had committed to ensuring a fair minimum wage for Nigerian workers.

In addition to discussing wage issues, the governors are expected to address the ongoing debate over the planned nationwide protest against bad governance and the recent Supreme Court ruling on local government autonomy.
