The new Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has been named by President Bola Tinubu as Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Jigawa State.

He also appointed Clifford Okwudiri Oparaodu as the secretary of the commission, the Presidency announced in a statement on Tuesday.

Presidential spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, said the appointment is in exercise of the Presidentโ€™s powers conferred on him as established in Section 3(6) of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000.

The appointment, he stated, is โ€œin furtherance of the Renewed Hope mandate to reform key institutions and invigorate Nigeriaโ€™s war on corruption.โ€

He said it is subject to the approval of the Nigerian Senate.

โ€œThe new Chairman of the ICPC is nominated for confirmation by the Nigerian Senate, following the Presidentโ€™s approval of the outgoing Chairmanโ€™s request to proceed on pre-end of tenure leave beginning on November 4, 2023, ahead of the expiration of his tenure on February 3, 2024,โ€ the statement read.

โ€œThe position of Secretary to the Commission does not require Senate confirmation and, therefore, by the directive of the President, the appointment of Mr. Clifford Okwudiri Oparaodu as Secretary of the Commission takes immediate effect.โ€

The President urged the new ICPC management to always be above board as they discharge their duties without fear or favour concerning all matters before them.
