The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) said it had recovered more than N30 billion of the N109 billion allegedly accumulated fraudulently by the federation’s suspended general accountant, Ahmed Idris.

This was announced on Thursday by the chairman of the EFCC, Abdulrasheed Bawa, during the weekly ministerial briefing at the State House.

Responding to a question about the independence of the commission, the head of the EFCC said that prominent personalities and government agencies across the board have come under scrutiny, including the EFCC, which is a testament to the government’s successful anti-corruption policies .

He revealed that through a Special control unit against Money laundering (SCUML), it would make it difficult for Nigerians to launder the proceeds of crime in the next two to three years.

He also announced that later this year, the commission will hold nationwide real estate auctions in 15 locations across the country to sell more than 150 confiscated condo and apartment assets.
