Minister of Health, Monitoring Gürçağ Altuğra, said that they care about the West Nile Virus and other diseases transmitted by mosquitoes and that they are fighting. 

Altuğra stated that all scientific developments within the scope of disease prevention are followed and combined with innovative strategies, providing world-class service. 

In her statement on the subject, Altuğra said, “As the Ministry of Health, we care about Western Bil Virus and other diseases transmitted by mosquitoes and we are fighting. We continue our efforts to prevent West Nile Virus and all other mosquito-borne diseases in our country without slowing down.” 

Gürçağ also gave information about the Mosquito Control Program carried out by the Ministry of Health, Department of Primary Health Care. 

According to the statement, the streams are cleaned in January and February every year; As of March, larvicides were detected and sprayed in wetlands.

Spraying works will continue uninterruptedly in Nicosia, Famagusta, Iskele, Güzelyurt and Lefke regions until the end of October. 

In addition, within the framework of the program that emerged as a result of the cooperation with the UN every year within the scope of the malaria warfare activities in the buffer zone, cleaning and spraying activities are carried out every 15 days in April-October. 

“Mosquito species detection studies have been started in order to detect the mosquitoes that are at risk of disease in our island and to create risk maps.

Our mosquito control teams were trained by experts on ‘diseases transmitted by mosquitoes, disease control and biological mosquito control’.

In each region, our teams have carried out and continue to carry out field observation and detection studies together with experts to identify regional risks and improve the fight.

According to the findings obtained from all these ongoing studies, new problem-specific coping strategies are determined.
