Suspects arrested for circulating counterfeit money sentenced to prison

Shukhrat Zikriyarov and Khasan Mukhtarov, who were circulating counterfeit money in the casino, were each sentenced to 7 months in prison. 

Underlining the seriousness and prevalence of the crime committed by the defendants, the court said, “Serious deterrent punishment should be given to such crimes.”

The verdict against Shukhrat Zikryarov and Khasan Mukhtarov, who on 17 June 2022, in the form of 100 dollar bills on them at the Merit Hotel Casino operating in Nicosia, gave 400 dollars out of a total of 5 thousand 100 dollars, which were fake, to the cashier to get a receipt, was announced yesterday.

Judge Murat Soytaç announced the unanimous decision of the committee composed of President Fadıl Aksun, Senior Judge Vedia Berkut Barkın and Judge Murat Soytaç, which constitutes the Nicosia Heavy Penal Court. 

Underlining the seriousness and prevalence of the crime committed by the defendants, Soytaç stated that the crime is one of the crimes that impose a long prison sentence and harm the public, and emphasized the importance of deterring punishments.

Judge Soytaç stated that the defendant should be given serious deterrent punishment for such crimes and stated that they evaluated the facts in favor and against the defendants and sentenced the defendant to 7 months in prison for the crimes he committed.
