Social Services Department launches a project for vulnerable children, adolescents

Social Services Department of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security is implementing projects for children and adolescents at risk.

The project, which aims to create a preventive and protective program for children and adolescents at risk, will be implemented first in the Nicosia walls.

In this context, a child and family counseling training center will be established in Nicosia Surlariçi.

According to the information given by the Ministry, the Minister of Labor and Social Security Hasan Taçoy said that within the scope of the ‘Preventive and Protective Interventions for Children/Adolescents at Risk Project’, it is planned to first work with children and adolescents residing within the walls of Nicosia.

Taçoy stated that, “A preventive and protective program is aimed for children and adolescents at risk who reside in Nicosia under the Ministry of Social Services Department. As the first pilot region, it is planned to work with children and adolescents residing in Nicosia Surlariçi. In the continuation of the project, it is planned to open a child and family counseling training center within the walls and to launch the project in other regions.”

Minister Taçoy stated that the target group that will work within the scope of the preventive and protective intervention project for children and adolescents at risk will be determined by the applications made to the child and adolescent Psychiatrists working at Barış Mental and Neurological Diseases Hospital and the Social Services Department.

The trainings planned to be given within the scope of the project will be gathered under 4 main headings. These; There will be adolescent intervention, psychosocial skills gaining, family intervention and control applications.

Taçoy said, “There are reports that 31 thousand people applied to Barış psychiatric hospital in the last three and a half years. This project will also help us in that context. Applications to be made to us by psychiatrists within the Ministry of Health will be handled and evaluated in this center”.

Taçoy said that the renovation of the building, which will serve as the child and family counseling training center on Ankara street in Nicosia Surlariçi, will begin this month and will be put into service next month.

Taçoy said, “We are starting the repair of this building this month. The chamber of industry will renovate and arrange this for us and it will be put into service. This place used to be the home of Rıza Vuruşkan, one of the founders of TMT, then TMT association used this place and passed it to us from them, and from now on, this place will continue its life as a child and family counseling and education center.”
