Greek Cypriot Negotiator Menelaos Menalu held a meeting yesterday with the mukhtars of Kato Pirgo (Lower Pirgo), Pano Pirgo (Upper Pirgo), Mosfikiu and Pomos, and discussed the opening of the Kokkina (Erenköy) barricade.
According to Haravgi newspaper, Kato Pirgo Headman Nikos Kleanthus stated that the main topic of the meeting was to find ways to open the Erenköy barricade to crossings.
Kleanthus stated that the negotiator Menelau listened to the opinions of the headmen of the region and knew the importance of the opening of the Erenköy barricade for the right of the region, and stated that he promised “as the Greek Cypriot leadership to do his best”.
Expressing that the Erenköy pocket is located between Paşiamma and Dillirga region and has cut off the access from the coastal road between the two regions since 1964.
Kleanthus stated that the people of the region have had to use a long and dangerous road that goes through the forest since then.
Kleanthus added that despite repeated calls by the Greek Cypriot side, the Turkish Cypriot authorities did not allow the use of the coastal road between “Pashiammo-Pirgo”.
