It was stated that the Greek Petroleum Association is preparing to move the issue of gasoline purchases from the TRNC to the European Union.

The Alithia newspaper wrote that the Greek Petroleum Association instructed the lawyers to take action at the European level, complaining about the “illegal trade” and circulation of fuel from the TRNC in Cyprus via the Green Line.

According to the news, Savvas Prokopiu, President of the Greek Petroleum Association, told the newspaper that the situation; He said it was out of state control.

Prokopiu said gas stations will apply to European bodies and institutions to complain about the situation.

Gasoline Union Press Spokesperson Christodoulos Hristodulu said in a statement to the newspaper that the state remained indifferent to the problems arising from the illegal fuel trade on the Green Line.

Hristodulu also said that his legal advisers are working on a multi-page document to be sent to the European Union.

Stating that their efforts to find a solution to their problems through the government have been inconclusive so far, Hristodulu stated that they also met with the ministry of foreign affairs, ministry of finance and customs authorities, but the problem could not be solved.

Hristodulu argued that efforts were made in the past for control at border gates, but this only lasted for two weeks, and that “illegal trade” continued.

The newspaper also stated that gas stations and companies lost millions of Euros due to the purchase of fuel from the TRNC, which is considered โ€œillegalโ€ due to the low prices in the TRNC.
