PDP Primaries: Abbas, Yaroe, Yohana wins Adamawa senatorial tickets

Adamawa Speaker Aminu Abbas has won the Senatorial ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Adamawa Central.

Abbas, who represents the Uba-Gaya constituency in the Assembly, competed for the senatorial ticket on Monday against political heavyweights but emerged with an unexpectedly easy win.
His opponents at the primary included Dr Awwal Tukur, son of former PDP national Chairman Bamangar Tukur, as well as a seasoned politician, Ibrahim Baba 10.
Results that trickled out of the Yola venue of the Adamawa Central Senatorial primary of the PDP Monday evening showed that Abbas polled 125 votes against Awwal Tukur’s 54 votes and Ibrahim Baba 10’s 32 votes.
Four other aspirants took part in the Adamawa Central Senatorial Zone primary. They were Alhaji Chibado Modibbo (13 votes), Hon Daniel Bwala (4), Hon Abubakar Gwal (3), and Barr DD Azura, one vote.
For the Adamawa South PDP Senatorial primary which took place in Numan, incumbent Senator Binos Yaroe polled 232 votes to defeat his closest rival, Engr Peter Fwa who got 55 votes.
A relatively new name in Adamawa politics, Rev Amos Yohana won the Adamawa North PDP Senatorial ticket, gathering 123 votes to defeat three other aspirants, including Zira Maigadi who got 28 votes, Ali Wampana who had 18 votes, and Philip Alango who got two votes.
