While President Muhammadu Buhari was still in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, concluding his two-day working visit, unidentified gunmen launched an attack within the metropolis.
The incident took place Friday, at the popular Ebebe Junction, about two kilometres away from the State Police Headquarters, Abakaliki.
The attackers, suspected to be enforcing a two-day sit-at-home, purportedly declared by unnamed groups in the South-East region, struck the area at about 6:20 a.m, setting a vehicle ablaze, while a motorcycle operator escaped death by whiskers.
Witnesses said, the hoodlums came in a vehicle with a numberless plate, shot sporadically in the air and immediately fled the scene.
A combined team of men of the Nigeria Police and the Ebubeagu Eastern Security Outfit, Ebonyi Command, had already cordoned off the area.
