Fire destroys goods in furniture shops near Anambra court

Millions of goods were on Saturday destroyed in some furniture shops near Federal High Court, Awka, Anambra State.

The fire, which started around 2am, was reportedly caused by power surge.
It was gathered that quick arrival of men of Fire Service prevented the inferno from spreading to buildings in the court premises.
Confirming the incident, State Fire Chief, Engr. Martin Agbili said no life was lost, adding that the fire to was put off after a two-hour battle.
He said: “At the early hours of today Saturday 28-05-2022, Anambra State Fire Service, Awka, Nigeria received a distress call of fire outbreak at No. 40 Court Road, near the Federal High Court, Awka.
“Time of Call: 0246hrs (2.46am) Arrival to Scene of fire: 0300hrs (3am) Cause of Fire: Power Surge; Description of Premises: Furniture Shops and its contents were burnt.
“We were able to fight the fire to standstill, completely extinguished and controlled, and stopped the fire from spreading to other nearby structures.
“There was no loss of life during the fire outbreak.”
