Two factional candidates have emerged in the Abia State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election held on Thursday.
The former Minister of State For Mines, Uche Ogah, became the APC flagbearer through direct primaries held at APC Secretariat, Azikiwe Road, Umuahia.
On the other hand, Ikechi Emenike emerged as the partyโs flagbearer through the indirect primary held at Old Chidiebere Motor Park, Umuagu, Umuahia.
The NWC of the APC, will, however, decide who flies the partyโs flag during the 2023 general elections.
Ogah was one of the ministers who resigned from the cabinet to pursue their political ambition. The resignation followed an order from President Muhammadu Buhari asking all political appointees seeking elective positions to quit their seats.
The order was also in line with Section 84(12) of the Electoral Act provides which says โNo political appointee at any level shall be a voting delegate or be voted for at the convention or congress of any political party for the purpose of the nomination of candidates for any electionโ.
Ogah lost the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship ticket to Governor Okezie Ikpeazu in 2014. He later joined the APC.
