The new Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Senator Abdullahi Adamu, has resigned from his position as the senator representing Nasarawa West in the 9th Assembly.
His resignation was contained in a letter sent to the upper chamber and read by Senate President Ahmad Lawan during Tuesdayโs legislative proceedings.
Adamu explained that his resignation follows his recent emergence as the new APC Chairman.
His deputy, Senator Abubakar Kyari has also resigned his position as a Senator representing Borno North.
In a separate letter sent to the Senate, he said the resignation is on account of his new position of Deputy National Chairman (North) of the APC.
Adamu emerged as the APC National Chairman about a year and nine months after the Adams Oshiomhole-led National Working Committee (NWC) was dissolved.
He was returned unopposed at the partyโs national convention held at the Eagle Square in Abuja, the nationโs capital on March 26.
Governor Abubakar Badaru of Jigawa State, who is also Chairman of the Electoral Committee, announced Adamu as the winner of the contest after he was endorsed by party members and leaders at the convention via a voice vote.
He had gone into the election as the consensus candidate following the withdrawal of his co-contenders from the contest.
