Lagos-Kano bound cargo train derails in Kaduna, killing the driver

Kano bound cargo train from Lagos has derailed at the Jaji Area of Kaduna, killing the driver.

The Managing Director, Nigerian Railway Corporation, NRC, Fidel Okhiria who confirmed the incident, said that security reports suggest that some portions of the monorail tracks were removed by yet to be identified persons, forcing the locomotive to derail on arrival at the spot.
On the casualty figure, he maintained that only the driver lost his life, according to the information available to the NRC at the time.
He added that on the advice of the police, people had been asked to stay off the area as it had been marked as an unsafe location.
The vandalization of the monorail line on Thursday is coming barely 4 days after an attack on a Kaduna bound train from Abuja, which led to the loss of lives of 8 persons, injuries to many and the missing of an unspecified number of persons.
