Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja has put on hold the judgement on the defection of the Cross River State Governor, Ben Ayade from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to All Progressives Congress, APC.
The judgement which was slated for Wednesday was put on hold following an argument put up by Mike Ozekhome, counsel for the governor, who drew the attention of the court to a judgment of the Court of Appeal delivered in Enugu in a similar case
When the matter came up this Wednesday, the judge asked parties in the suit to address him on the implications of the appellate court’s judgement on the present case.
The lawyers were still addressing the court as at the time of filing this report.
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has instituted a suit before the Federal High Court, Abuja, asking the court to, among others, sack Cross River State Governor Benedict Ayade and his deputy, Ivara Esu, following their defection to the All Progressives Congress, APC, on May 20, 2021.
The PDP argued that the mandate given by the electorates in Cross River State was to the PDP and Ayade as the candidate of the party at the election, cannot transfer such to the APC or any other political party.
