The Economic and Financial crimes Commission, EFCC, Enugu Command, on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 arraigned one Amaechi Tony Nnamani before Justice F.O.G Ogunbanjo of the Federal High Court sitting in Enugu, Enugu State on a six count charge bordering on obtaining by false pretences and stealing to the tune of N2,380,000 (Two Million, Three Hundred and Eighty- Thousand Naira).
Nnamaniโs ordeal began when the complainant, Ngwule Chukwuebuka contacted him that he wanted to buy land situated at the Agu Nyama River Layout in Enugu South. After negotiations, Chukwuebuka paid the sum of N2, 380,000 to Nnamani but when it was time to take possession of the land, he couldnโt because the land belonged to one Jonathan Nwachukwu.
Count one of the charge reads, โThat you AMAECHI TONY NNAMANI on or about the 2nd day of January 2018 in Enugu within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court and with intent to defraud, obtained the sum of One Million, Five Hundred Thousand Naira only through your Account number 6233622289 domiciled in Fidelity Bank Plc from Ngwule Chukwuebuka Johncross by false pretence when you represented to him that the said money is part payment for a parcel of land situated at Agu Nyama Layout behind Ministry of Agriculture, Enugu South LGA of Enugu State which you claimed belonged to Mr. Joseph Nnaji which pretence you know to be false and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1(1)(a) of the Advanced Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act,2006 and punishable under Section 1 (1) of the same Actโ.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Justice Ogunbanjo adjourned the matter till March 31, 2022 for hearing of the bail application and remanded the defendant in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service.
