The Acting Zonal Commander of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Benin Zonal Command, Mrs Nkechi Rita Ude, has charged members of the National Youth Service Corps /EFCC Community Development Group to enlist as foot soldiers and become anti corruption ambassadors in their area of primary assignment.
The acting Commander stated this on Wednesday January 26, 2022 at the NYSC Oredo Zonal office, Benin City.
Represented by the Head, Public Affairs, Williams Oseghale, she urged the corps members to be role models in transparency, accountability, discipline and integrity in order to inculcate positive values on the younger generation. “You have to be good examples for the younger ones to see. That is when you will be able to establish integrity clubs for them”.
She charged them to resist the temptation to engage in cyber crimes and other computer-related fraud as it is not a sustainable way of life. “The immediate benefits may be alluring, but the long term consequences are grave as the Commission will continue to arrest and prosecute those involved”.
He said the Benin Command of the Commission secured 170 convictions in 2021 and secured forfeiture of properties including cars and houses worth millions of naira. “There is no hiding place for them because the Commission will continue to go after them.”
Olajuwon Bamidele, president of the Anti Corruption CD Group commended the Commission for the enlightenment. According to him, they are better informed about the activities of the Commission and the role they can play in fighting the social menace. “Today we have heard and learnt about how destructive internet fraud can be”.
