The Director General of Consumer Protection Council Imo State, Hon. Mrs Obioma Okafor, promised consumers in the state effective protection of their rights.

She made this promise at HotFM Owerri, where she featured as a guest on a popular radio programme “The People’s Assembly, on Thursday, November 2021. 

During this programme, the DG took questions on sundry issues bordering on consumer protection in Imo State. 

According to her, Imo CPC has been repositioned by Senator Hope Uzodimma to provide speedy redress to consumers who are shortchanged, particularly on goods and services.  

Therefore, She advised consumers to be careful and spend wisely as the Yuletide draws near, giving an assurance that CPC would be on ground to do the needful to eliminate all harzadious products in the markets, across the state.

Mrs Okafor, also said that consumers can reach  CPC through its different social media platforms and phone lines to lodge their complaints. Moving forward,  she highlighted the need to check some features like ”NAFDAC Registration Number, Manufacturing  Date, Best Before or Expiration Date” on products before purchase.  

She further encouraged imolites to report any dissatisfaction  in any transaction as CPC has the mandate to provide speedy redress to consumers at all times and it’s free of charge.

The DG CPC also stated  her achievements since she assumed office as the Director General, CPC Imo State, noting that the agency under her watch has become visible and more proactive as they have been able to intensify sensitization and awareness campaign to educate the public about their rights, as well ensure that industries that operates in the state complies with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). 

She reiterated the position of the agency to prosecute anybody found wanting, especially those who refuse to honour a summon by her agency.

Hon. Mrs Okafor also informed the public about  the special Consumer Education project, tagged, ”The Shared Prosperity Catch Them Young Initiative”. A programme jointly designed by Imo State CPC with IMSUBEB for all the primary schools both Government, private and missionary schools in Imo State. 

The programme entiles special debate competition for primary school pupils to educate them on their basic rights as a consumer. 

The debate competition is expected to reawaken the ability and excellence in spoken English in the primary school pupils, create awareness on  consumer rights and also propagate the 3R mantra of Dist. Senator Hope Uzodimma’s administration in Imo State.
