Omo-Agege mourns former IDU PG, Onovughakpor Akpotu

The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege has mourned the death of Chief Stephen Onovughakpor Akpotu, former President-General, Isoko Development Union (IDU).  

In a message on Saturday, Senator Omo-Agege expressed deep shock and sadness over the demise of the erstwhile Chairman, Movement for the Creation of Delta State even as he called on the state government to immortalise the elder statesman by naming a public institution after him.

The Delta Central lawmaker described the deceased as a renowned philanthropist, community leader and politician.

“As former Chairman, Isoko Division, one-time President-General, Isoko Development Union and Grand Patron of IDU until his transition, Chief (Dr) Stephen Akpotu served his Isoko nation with deep commitment and worked diligently for the well-being of the Isoko people.

“As Chairman, Movement for the Creation of Delta State, his commitment to serve the state and passion for the creation of the new state, which paid off on August 27, 1991 will remain indelible in our hearts.

โ€œHis passing is a heavy loss to all of us, and his memory will remain evergreen in the hearts of the Isoko people in particular and Deltans in general,” he said.

Senator Omo-Agege extended his heartfelt condolences to Akpotuโ€™s family and friends whilst enjoining Deltans to remember them in their prayers at this very trying moment of losing such an illustrious Deltan.
