The House of Representatives has just confirmed the appointment of Maj.-Gen. Lucky E. O. Irabor as the country’s new Chief of Defence Staff.
It also confirmed Maj.-Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru as the Chief of Army Staff; Rear Admiral Auwal Zubair Gambo as Chief of Naval Staff; and Air Vice Marshall Isiaka Oladayo Amao as the Chief of Air Staff.
Lawmakers in plenary on Tuesday, confirmed the appointments after they considered and passed the report of a special screening committee set up by the Speaker, Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila.
The committee was chaired by the Chairman, House Committee on Defence, Rep. Babajimi Benson.
Gbajabiamila had authorised the screening on Wednesday last week following a letter to the House received from President Muhammadu Buhari on February 11, urging lawmakers to confirm the appointments in compliance with Section Section 18 (1) of the Armed Forces Act, Cap A20, Law of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.
