Abducted Delta doctor regain freedom

Dr. Wisdom Iboyitete, the medical doctor kidnapped at Ojobo General Hospital in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State, has been set free.

It was gathered the victim was released by his abductors in the early hours of Sunday.

It was also learnt that Iboyitete, a principal officer, was kidnapped on Sunday night by gunmen pretending to be patients.

The medical doctor was whisked away to an unknown destination through the creeks in the community.

The Delta State National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners (NAGGMDP) had since declared an indefinite strike action to protest his abduction.

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has also directed its members in the state to down tools if the victim was not released before Monday.

The State Secretary of NAGGMDP, Dr. Ikechukwu Okoh, confirmed the release of the doctor.

He said the victim had just been released when contacted at about 1:33pm on Sunday.

Okoh however could not immediately give details of the release.

Although the kidnappers had asked for N5 million ransom, it is not clear whether it was paid for the victim’s release.
