…set up economic recovery committee.

Akwa Ibom State government has approve the commencement of a School On Radio Programme to impart knowledge to students particularly those in examination clases in view of the lockdown occasioned by coronavirus pandemic .

This was part of the decisions taken today at the state Executive Council Meeting presided over by the state Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, at the Executive Council Chamber , Government House, Uyo.

Briefing Government House Correspondents at the end of the Meeting, the Commissioner of Information, Sir Charles Udoh, said that the programme will be aired in the state owned radio station, adding that details of the programme is being worked out by the Ministry of Education .

He said, “Most importantly, Government also felt that as the lockdown continues our children who are supposed to prepare for WAEC and NECO examinations as well as Junior Secondary School examination should be given opportunity to refresh their memories.

“So the state government thought it wise to activate a programme where our children in JSS 3 and SSS 3 are given the opportunity to revise and learn from remote locations.”

According to the State Spokesman, the educational radio programme will be undertaken over an extended period of about forty-two weeks or as the case may be. That is at the first instance.

He encouraged students to avail themselves of the learning opportunity while at home during the lockdown period.

Sir Udoh further said, “EXCO has also approved the inauguration of an economic recovery committee to plan for the state after the lockdown and the COVID-19 Pandemic. The reason is simple. For the last two weeks or so economic activities in the state have almost come to a halt and if you look at that from all ramifications there are things and steps we need to put in place to ensure that once we are out of this lockdown we can reactivate, rejig and reaccelerate the economy”.

He explained that the meeting became expedient to enable members of the State Executive Council to meet, review situations and take necessary decisions in the interest of of the state.

The information boss hinted that members of the Executive Council had to drive themselves without aides or security in keeping with the social distancing protection against the dreaded Covid -19 Pandemic.
