Averting Crisis: Governor Abiodun to set up Police Students Community Committee

Governor Dapo Abiodun has disclosed plans by the State Government to set up Police Students Community Relations Committee(PSCRC) to foster healthy relationship among the Police, students and host communities of tertiary institutions in the state.

Abiodun said the Committee would have its membership drawn from the Ogun State Police Command, Department of State Security Service (DSS), Students Union Governments of tertiary institutions and concerned Community Development Associations (CDAs) leaders.

The Governor who spoke on Wednesday through his Special Adviser on Students Affairs, Com. Azeez Adeyemi, during his Campus tour of the Ogun State Institute of Technology (OGITECH), Igbesa, added that the Committee would be saddled with the task of addressing issues concerning students in the State.

He explained that the essence of the Committee is to keep the administration on the side of pro – activeness, engender peace and cordial relationship among these stakeholders as well as ensure students safety and averting students crisis that could disrupt academic calendar.

Abiodun’s aide who met with the students of OGITECH, CDA leaders, representatives of the State Police Command and the school management, reiterated the state government’s commitment to the development of education in the State, having identified it as key to the overall development of the State even as he appealed to the CDA to continue to be accommodate the students.

He said: “We are lucky in to have a Governor who has the interest of the students at heart, a leader who is not only concerned about the welfare of the students but also committed to alleviating their sufferings.

“I see it needful to embark on this campus to campus tour in oder for this administration to have first hand information about the real issues and challenges confronting students in the State.

“I also want to plead with the host communities that you should continue to accommodate our students irrespective of whatever they may do for you, they are your children.”

The Rector of the Institute, Olufunke Akinkurolere expressed confidence in the commitment of Dapo Abiodun – led administration to take education to a greater height in the state while the SUG President, Ogunleye Eniola called on the government to come to the aid of the school by equipping their medical centre.

The representative of Police, Olawale Olusanya, an Assistant Superintendent of Police(ASP), urged the students be good ambassadors of their school and shun bad conducts.
