The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has implored corps members to join the commission after their service to tackle the menace of corruption in Nigeria.
Speaking after the Anti-Corruption rally which started at Stadium and terminated at Freedom park in capital of Osun, Osogbo tagged, “Nigerian Youths Walk Against Corruption’ which the commission held in partnership with National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), the official of EFCC, Detective Superintendent, Mr Seun Oluwakorede said, ” the program is to sensitise the people about corruption.
He said the youth hold about 70% of the population of this country. When you take a stand against corruption, the whole nation will be moved to do the right thing. Now we are taking a stand against corruption, we are planning and securing our future by this rally.
“We are preaching integrity to Nigerians. So, we expect you to take it back to other youths that are not here to let them know too that we want to put an end to corruption and we have started. We are starting with youths. I expect some of you, after your service, to join us in this drive to eradicate corruption in our country.”
He noted that “It is not possible for us to employ all of you, but I can say that all of you can work for us anywhere you find yourselves, be it in government, bank, an oil company. You can take a stand against corruption even though it may not show during our time but in years to come, we will see that Nigeria will be better for us.”
Oluwakorede stressed that President Muhammadu Buhari remains committed to the fight against corruption and that the Acting Chairman of EFCC Mr. Ibrahim Magu and his team are working hard to win the war against corruption.
The South-West zonal coordinator of NYSC, Mr. Emmanuel Attah while addressing corps members said, “corruption is evil. If we don’t kill corruption, corruption will kill us.”
He charged corps members to go back to their respective local government areas to propagate the campaign.
His words, ” Please speak against corruption, speak against cybercrime, speak against ritual killings for money and any other social vices.
“For a nation to meet the target of development and corrupt-free society the youths must be engaged in the fight against corruption.”
Corruption is not only about embellishing government money or taking it outside the country or keeping it for your family members. Corruption entails a lot more than this. So Nigeria youth, this is your country, if you want to free corrupt country, it means you want to take the country to the next level of development. He added.
The NYSC Coordinator in Osun State, Mr Ayodele Adegoke said over 500 corps members, participated in the campaign exercise joined by other youths in the state.
The rally also has the Osun State Commissioner of Youth and Sport, Hon Yemi Lawal and other government officials in attendance.
