Don’t be afraid of us, Navy Commandant tells citizens

The Commandant of the Nigerian Navy Finance and Logistics College (NNFLC), Owerrinta, in Abia State, Comdr. Omotayo Olukoya, has advised indigenes of the area not to be afraid of his men, explaining that the military personnel are also human.

Olukoya made the statement at the weekend when the college held its 4th quarter free medical which is also the last for the year for the people of Ikeala Mbutu in Isialangwa South council area, where many people were given free medical attention for different ailments.

Speaking at the event held at Umuamadi village hall at Mbutu, Olukoya said apart from security issues which they have been helping the state government to control, the free medical care is one of the ways to tell the people where they are based that they are humans, “So you people have no reason to be afraid of us,” he said.

He added that the medical rhapsody which the college is holding is one of the ways to give back to the society.

Olukoya who was represented by his deputy, Navy Capt. Yahaya Mohammed, said they were carrying out the directive of the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Ibok Ete Ibas, who urged them to always give back to their host community so as to remove fear in them.
