The Katsina State Chief Judge, Justice Musa Danladi Abubakar Tuesday said delays, inefficiency and deficient transparency were the impediments to justice delivery system in Nigeria.
He stated this while declaring open a two-day capacity building training workshop for court reporters in Katsina State, organized by the state High court of Justice in collaboration with Journalists for Accountability and Good Governance Initiative (JAGGI).
Justice Abubakar said: “You are aware that efficiency, transparency and integrity are the hallmark of justice. It is well known that our justice delivery system is bedeviled with the problem of delays, inefficiency and deficient transparency”
He called on journalists in the state to contribute in relieving the judiciary the burden of crowded cases and lack of Transparency by exposing inefficiency and any form of corrupt practices amongst legal practitioners and other stakeholders.
Another notable danger confronting efficiency in the Justice delivery system which the number one judicial officer in the state refused to ignore is what he called ” prejudicial repotting ” which he considered to be detrimental to particularly high profile cases.
Justice Danladi strongly shares the opinion that the non-traditional media commentators and “arm chair lawyers “have grown in number and that their reports are skewed with outright misunderstanding of the law
He said” Their interest is to report only legal issues that will generate hits on their blogs serving their personal interests rather than for public good and public interests”
The lectures at the workshop were delivered by notable speakers including the Special Adviser to the Governor on Higher Education, Bashir Ruwangodia and lecturers’ from the Universities in Katsina.
