Federal High Court reverses INEC’s disqualification of Kogi SDP candidate

INEC’s National Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakbubu

A Federal High Court in Abuja has reversed the decision by the Independent National Electoral Commission to exclude Mrs. Natasha Akpoti of the Social Democratic Party as a candidate in the forthcoming November 16 governorship election in Kogi State.

Justice Folashade Ogunbanjo-Giwa, in a judgment on Thursday, held that INEC acted outside the law by refusing to accept the party and its candidate ‎for the poll.

Justice Giwa-Ogunbanjo was of the view that INEC was without the power to disqualify any candidate for an election without first obtaining a court order to that effect.

Justice Giwa-Ogunbanjo then proceeded to ordered the Commission to include SPD’s logo on ballot papers meant for the election.
