The Katsina State police command, on Thursday in Katsina paraded three suspected fraudsters, who specialize in duping their victims while promising to double their money and make them richer
The acting spokesman of the command, Assistant Superintendent Gezawa Anas told newsmen that the gang was arrested following a distress call from their victim, Mr. Chinedu Onoja
He said, “They deceived Chinedu, a business at Sabon line Katsina, into parting with the sum of N94,000, promising to double it and make him richer”
“They are going to be charged with criminal conspiracy and fraud, as soon as investigations were concluded”
“Items found on them include,50 pieces of fake US dollar, 3 handsets, 3 ATM cards, 1 live and 2 dead pidgeons, 1 drum of charm rapped with incriminating materials”
The police spokesman further disclosed that the 3 suspects who hailed from Ijebu Ode, Ogun State have been operating in the state for the past one month.
He listed the suspects to include: Ayenugba Dada, 32, Ugunmotiri ojo,22, and Ogundipe Akin, 22.
Gezawa also reiterated the appeal by the State Commissioner of Police, Sanusi Buba, to businessmen in the state to be wary of fraudsters in their deals and to report movement of criminals to the police
Meanwhile the victim, Mr. Onoja, said he was deceived into patronising the suspects when at first they gave him a genuine one dollar note which he immediately converted into naira notes and used part of it to buy drinks which they used for oath taking
He said, “The demanded N5.3m from me and asked me to sell my property and borrow from friends to raise the amount, but when I discovered that their charmed drum was empty I discovered they were fake.”
