Two kidnapped victims have reportedly been rescued by policemen attached to the Ohuru Isimiri Division under the Aba Area Command in Abia State.
It was gathered that the policemen also recovered a Hyundai Sports Utility Vehicle belonging to one of the victims after it was abandoned by the kidnappers, who were fleeing from the cops.
The rescued victims, who were identified as Ndukwe Patrick and Chika Aniere, were kidnapped around 10pm on Wednesday.
A police source stated that the cops swung into action after a signal came from the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Ene Okon, instructing the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the Ohuru Isimiri Division to go after the hoodlums and ensure that they did not escape with the victims.
The source added that the prompt action of the police personnel foiled the kidnappers.
When contacted, the CP confirmed the rescue of the victims, stressing that the prompt action of his men from the Ohuru Isimiri Division helped to stop the kidnappers from achieving their aim.
Okon stated that while the kidnappers pushed away Patrick as he was struggling with them while being chased by the police, Aniere jumped out of the car boot.
He added that the kidnappers abandoned the Hyundai car belonging to one of the victims.
Okon said, “We are prepared to frustrate hoodlums from making Abia a safe haven. We are warning those thinking of coming to the state to kidnap or commit all manners of crimes to have a rethink.
“We will not fold our arms and watch some elements disrupt the peace in the state or make the state difficult for residents and visitors to carry out their legitimate business.”
