Police kill three robbers, recover rifles in Rivers

Men of the Rivers State Police Command shot dead three armed robbers during a gun battle on Thursday in Port Harcourt.

The police also recovered some arms and ammunition during the incident, which was said to have happened around 9.30am on Birabi Street, GRA, Port Harcourt.

According to a source in the area said that he was not aware if the armed robbers were returning from an operation, the hoodlums were oblivious of the fact that they were being trailed by the police.

The source stated, “It happened in the morning around 9.30am on Birabi Street inside the GRA in Port Harcourt. The armed robbers did not know that the police were following them.

“We heard gunshots and the residents were afraid; we later heard that three armed robbers were killed.”

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Nnamdi Omoni, confirmed the incident, adding that three armed robbers were killed by the Swift Operation Squad.

He added that two AK-47 rifles, eight magazines and 186 pieces of live ammunition were recovered from the hoodlums.

Omoni stated, “Yes, three armed robbers were killed on Birabi Street in the GRA, Port Harcourt this morning (Thursday). They were killed by personnel of the Swift Operation Squad.

“The three hoodlums were intercepted in the morning. Two AK-47 rifles, eight magazines and 186 pieces of live ammunition were recovered from them. Investigation is still ongoing.”
