Eleven suspects were on Tuesday brought back to Nicosia accident court for the murder of Obasanjo Adeola Owoyale.
The suspects were first arraigned on July 12, 2019, they were re-arraigned again on July 15 after been remanded for three days.
Five out of the eleven suspects were released on Tuesday after police find them to be innocent.
The remaining six suspects are to remain in police custody for more six day.
The suspects are: Cristian Osemudi Bremen Akhımemo, Oba Francis, Jonhattan Osukomudu, Jeffrey Oziegbe Ikpotokin, Eustese Isesele, Achazie Emeka.
The Nicosia accident court Judge ordered a medical check up on the suspects following claims by their lawyers that their clients were tortured while in detention.
Owoyale went missing on July 1, 2019 and was found dead in the trunk of his car wrapped with blanket. The car was parked in the area known as the Nicosia schools road on July 8, 2019.
In an apartment raid by Northern Cyprus police, on July 11, several people were detained in connection with the murder. Statements were taken from 38 people during the three days detention period.
The crime scene investigation teams found that there was a blood stain on the walls and on the carpet.
The blood sample was sent to the Ankara Criminal Police Laboratory. The laboratory test showed that the blood on the crime scene matched that of Owoyale.
According to police report, Owoyale, 33, a Cyprus International University PhD student died as a result of “cutting/crushing injuries, multiple fractures of the head bones and brain tissues”.
Northern Cyprus police are yet to make public the main motive behind Owoyale death as investigation continues.
