Secretary to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mr. Olanipekun Olukoyede has charged staff of the Port Harcourt’s Zonal Office to be more dedicated to their duties and uphold the tenets of integrity and hard work in all their assignments.
Olukoyede gave the charge on Monday, July 22, 2019 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, while addressing staff of the Zone.
According to him, diligence and integrity remained the cornerstones of the work of the EFCC and staff are expected to exemplify those virtues. “We will not tolerate acts of indiscipline and corruption.
You can’t approbate and reprobate. Be dedicated and committed to whatever you are doing. The Chairman is interested in developing the system but he can’t do it alone. We must shun corruption in its entirety”, he said.
The Secretary, who is on a two- day official visit to Port Harcourt Zonal Office, commended the Zone for the facelift and impressive cleanliness of the office environment. “This is the neatest office around”, he said.
He also reviewed the welfare situations of staff across all the zones and commended the management of the Commission for working steadfastly to improve the welfare of staff. “We are not doing badly within the law enforcement circles. Statutorily, it is my duty to see to the welfare of staff and the Chairman is giving us the necessary support. The Chairman said he would do everything possible to encourage you”, he said.
Olukoyede dismissed insinuations being expressed about transfer of staff across the zones stressing that there should be no choice area for any staff of the Commission to work. “Transfer has become a necessity. Everybody should be ready for it. As long as you are in EFCC, you must be ready to be transferred. If there are genuine cases why such should be looked into, we would look at it. Critical transfer cases may be reversed if there are genuine basis for them but generally, everybody should expect to be moved. There should be no choice area to work in EFCC”, he said.
The Secretary fielded questions from staff on issues of promotion, security and other welfare matters and assured staff of silver linings in the horizon. “Things will get better”, he assured.
