60-year-old woman drags ex-son-in-law to court for taking away grandson

A 60-year-old woman, Furera, on Thursday, dragged her former son-in-law before a Sharia Court ll sitting at Magajin Gari, Kaduna, for taking away her three-year-old grandson.

Furera told the court that her son-in-law took off with her grandson when she went to work.

“He kept my grandson for 13 days.  He and my daughter were married for four years and later divorced. The court, however, gave my daughter custody of the child,” she said.

The defendant, Hassan, 59, denied taking the child without his former mother-in-law’s consent.

“When I was still married to her daughter, my former mother-in-law called me and asked me to allow her daughter to travel to Saudi Arabia to do business for two years.

“After I refused to allow her, my home knew no peace.

“My former wife packed all her belongings and left my house. I made all efforts to see that she returned to my house but it did not work out.

“I told them I will grant their request on the condition that they hand over my three-year-old son.

“They agreed and I divorced her, and I took my son as agreed,” Usman said.

The Judge, Malam Murtala Nasir, after listening to both parties, ordered the defendant to produce his witnesses who were with him when the agreement was reached with his mother-in-law to take the child.

He adjourned the case until July 11, for further hearing.
