Lagos state police have arrested 16 persons over last Thursday’s cult clashes in Ikorodu.
According to the police, a 28-year-old man, Sodiq Adewale, was killed and Tayo Ogini, 28, injured in the feud.
The fight between the Aiye and Eiye cult groups started on Thursday night till early Friday.
A notorious kingpin was among those arrested by the police Anti-Cultism unit.
Police spokesman Bala Elkana, a Deputy Superintendent (DSP) in a statement yesterday, said the suspects were Adewale Afisi, Adewale Rufai, Seun Balogun, Sunday Vincent, Ige Olalekan, Kolawole Gbenga, Olanrewaju Ibrahim, Obi Joshua, Adetunji Ojo, Idowu Olanrewaju, Pelumi Dada, Tijani Alabi, Taiwo Adejowo, Yinka Adebayo, Ekele Merit and Muyideen Saliu.
Elkana said a team led by Ikorodu Divisional Police Officer, Babalola Sarafa, a Superintendent (SP), was drafted to the scene where the suspects were arrested. A short gun, cutlasses, stolen phones and various charms recovered from them.
Also, the police arrested three suspected traffic robbers early Saturday around Anthony Oke.
Ayomide Olamipo, 21, Ogundiran Timileyin, 22, and Blessing Ndubusi, 16, were apprehended by officers of Pedro Police Division. A sharp knife with an expended AK47 bullet recovered from them.
“They all confessed to be responsible for traffic robberies along Somolu and environ. An investigation is ongoing, suspects will be charged to court,” Elkana said.
